Success Through Education, Purpose, and Support

Working Today. Building Tomorrow

Jeff Hall - Principal

On the behalf of the staff and faculty of Frederick Douglass I would like to welcome all families old and new to Frederick Douglass Elementary. We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.

We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:

  • Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience
  • Completes all homework assignments as given by teachers
  • Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
  • Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life
  • Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject
  • Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college

Parents/guardians are always welcome at our school. We view our parents/guardians as equal partners in providing our children with meaningful educational experiences. Further, we encourage you to become active participants in school programs and classroom activities. Parents who help regularly and routinely in the school will need to obtain the necessary clearances (through the Literacy Network). There are many ways to support your child, such as volunteering to help in classrooms, volunteering for the Frederick Douglass Alumni Association or attending one of our many school programs.

I am proud to be the principal of Frederick Douglass Elementary. We are creating an environment where teachers love coming to teach and students love coming to learn. Dedicated to lifelong learning and through on-going professional development through our partnership with Miami University, our staff stays informed about credible research, exemplary teaching practices, and the need for addressing the social aspects of the developing child. Utilizing the districts professional development track with Mindset, and our partnership with Miami University, we shall shift the culture within the building to a more culturally competent and open place to teach, learn and grow. In order to help students grow and expand their horizons, we have also partnered with Walnut Hills High School to provide after school club opportunities. The sky is the limit and we are providing all the resources and tools we can to ensure a continued path to excellence.

We invite you join our community as we work together to best serve our students. Please feel free to contact me anytime if you have a suggestion, concern, or just a “good story” to share. I look forward to working with you and your children!

Sincerely,

Jeffery A. Hall
Principal

About Frederick Douglass School

Cincinnati, Ohio

Working Today to Create A Better Tomorrow

This is a new initiative as part of the reset and recalibration of the partnership between CECF and Frederick Douglass Elementary School.
Education, purpose, and support for students are the 3 pillars or areas of focus in terms of the role of CECF at Frederick Douglass school.
CECF has committed to adopting the third and fourth-grade classrooms at Douglass for the upcoming school year. What does that mean?  The church’s role will be holistic, engaging with the whole student-academic, behavioral, exposure, and lifestyle practices for success.

THERE ARE LOTS OF WAYS TO SERVE

We are looking for volunteers who are able to be consistent, believe in building community, and who want to see change for the better for our young people.

A consistent commitment of 1 hour/week or every other week during school hours is required. Volunteers do NOT have to go to the school in person to serve if they are not comfortable (there may be opportunities for phone contact with families)

A background check is required by Cincinnati Public Schools.  We will connect you with the person who is coordinating that process. There will be no cost to the volunteer if completed through the process we provide.

Our goal is to be ready to launch this initiative at the beginning of the school year in order to help kids get off to a great start!

Please complete the form below so we may contact you.
